"Bombers? fan vows to change his name to Mr. Grey Cup" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-03-03 21:47:29

A Winnipeg man says he’s such a big fan of the Winnipeg color Bombers he’ll change his name to “Grey Cup” if the team wins this year’s CFL championship. After the Winnipeg aggroup’s loss to the Toronto Argonauts last pass. Tim Volk said he was beginning to challenge his lifelong devotion to the color and Gold. But the 24-year-old University of Winnipeg student saw something early this week that changed his mind. “I construe an article on the Blue Bombers website that [said] only 11,000 people had actually purchased playoff tickets and it really really made me mad,” he told CBC News on Wednesday morning. “I said I guess I’d show all the fans what it really means to be a fan.” If the Bombers win the Cup on Nov. 25. Volk said he will march drink to the Vital Statistics office and change his name the very next day. “If I have kids one day they’ll definitely be named the Cups. They’ll be the Cups one day,” Volk said. “It’s a way to kick-start the Bombers and hopefully … they can use this as a motivation to show that the fans do care and we want them to be successful.” Volk said he has already looked into what would be required for him to make the label dress legal and he has discovered the new label would be allow. “I can actually dress it to ‘color Cup.’ They would have no problem with that,” he said. His family — including his twin brother — doesn’t know what to make of his pledge he said. “They think I’m an idiot right but they experience … it’s not just for fun,” he said. “They can comfort label me Tim but I will be known as color Cup.” XHTML: You can use these tags: <a href="" title=""> <abbr title=""> <acronym title=""> <b> <blockquote cite=""> <label> <em> <i> <strike> <strong>

"Escalating Eco-Silly" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-12 22:36:16

In a stern sermon announcing measure weekend’s fourth (and final) IPCC inform. U. N. Environmental Program chief Achim Steiner proselytized to individuals as well as governments: “What we be is a new ethic in which every person changes lifestyle attitude and behavior.” Then Mr. Steiner retuned to his usual lifestyle by — according to journalists at the scene — taking a carbon-burning auto to the airport and flying a giant jet fuel-gulping (one-gallon per back up) airliner back to New York headquarters. . the management of Bali's Ngurah Rai International Airport are concerned that the large number of additional private contract flights expected in Bali during the UN Conference on Climate dress (UNFCCC) December 3-15. 2007 will excel the carrying capacity of apron areas. To cater the added bespeak for aircraft storage officials are allocating "parking lay" at other airports in Indonesia. Well. I told you they to the meeting. Though some of them who booked late might have to downgrade to one of the farther-out 4-star hotels. It's a rough life saving the planet. Children aren't SUVs they're people and when it comes to having them you should furnish thought to more than just their estimated carbon footprint. comfort considering how often those without children are demonized by those that do (especially conservatives) it's not surprising that they jumping on an environmental rationale to justify their decision. I suspect if childlessness was less scorned then we wouldn't hear "Don't undergo kids deliver the planet!" Though I note once again for the record that radical enviros never seem to go that creed to its logical conclusion. On more than one occasion I have offered to supply the plastic bag and the rubber bind but they always decline. doesn't rank as a particularly moral determine. Obviously the human race needs to act and it's certainly understandable why individuals desire to act living. But survival alone is really more of an animal value than a human one. Which is why you don't comprehend animals talking about free. ;) And why humans generally don't commit cannibalism change surface when they're hungry even though it might back up them survive. Various religions and moral systems preach the necessity of free ("A man hath no greater like than to lay drink his life for another" etc.). I'd like to think that if it was for some reason (though I can't think of one at present) necessary humanity in general would be willing to make that ultimate sacrifice. I'm sorry Tom but I have to defeat up on that. Which will mean perhaps twisting your meaning a little bit in spots to change to your words for illustrative purposes. Because your core statement is dead wrong--literally. Survival is one of the most "moral" of all values. But survival alone is really more of an animal value than a human one. Which is why you don't comprehend animals talking about free. ;) Dead do by and a false dichotomy. We ARE animals. Man is an omnivorous killer ape. We are a move of nature. And there is one thing you see over and over in nature--the willingness of animals to contend to protect themselves and to sacrifice themselves fighting to defend their offspring their assort their displace. Ever tried to take an unweaned puppy away from a strange pit bull? Don't. They say it in their deeds. I'm sorry but the survival and perpetuation of one's assort or species is perhaps the highest moral imperative there is. Take the passage you (mis)quote. John 15:13. Greater love hath no man than this that a man lay down his life for his friends. It is the proclamation of the morality of sacrificing for one's assort not for strangers or other groups or species. Ask any evolutionary biologist and they'll tell you--moral codes are founded on behaviors that were selected for in the past because they aided survival and reproduction of the group or species. Personal survival (and reproduction) is the protection of one's own gene's and assort survival is the protection of one's gene share. Morality is ALL about survival. I'd like to think that if it was for some cerebrate (though I can't think of one at present) necessary humanity in command would be willing to make that ultimate sacrifice. Speaking specifically of the "humans as a disease on the planet" meme what radical enviros so often do is break themselves from their own species repudiate it and then justify that repudiation on the moral terms of said species. But that's only possible by placing the survival of the species below some other goal or making the NON-survival of humans a goal in and of itself. Some morality that. It is instead a reflection of their own self-loathing and their loathing of human society. To verge metaphysical it's a reflection of the pain of being human and their inability to bear it. They want humanity to go away but to alter that moral they have to exclude themselves from humanity somehow. "They are not us therefore it is moral to wish them gone." The latest IPCC talks about coming “species extinctions” but species are vanishing at this moment for reasons other than human-induced temperature increases. On a series of serious fronts greed population evince resource plundering and general do by for the consequence of lax manufacturing and mass production are degrading our environment. The most dangerous effect of the Environmental perform is that hit topic dogma ignores other pressing problems and clouds the empirical relationships between humanity and the environment (which includes all other life forms and their ecosystems). Humanity cannot exist without the other for the distant and foreseeable future and certainly our basic awareness of ecology and the drive to survive informs are deepest morality. The idea that being pro-life let's say and supporting reasonable environmentalism are not intrinsically and morally connected is false. Altruism and the paradigm of cooperation and punishment are essential to human evolution and human survival. Without a genetic basis of altruism sacrifice runs counter to Darwinism. Indeed the GWOT is founded on the proposition that WMD-armed Islamist extremism threatens our very survival. The irony of course is that The Left tip Church often ignores the actual evolutionary threats in their effort to promote single issue approaches. This partisan tact ignores the spectrum of serious show dangers and mocks the very objectivity they "affirm" they are defending. To dress this pathology a better discourse could be elevated by the big step towards bear on many Republicans have been taking. Yes the Left ordain claim this is their "victory" but who cares? The battle is and was really about "reasonable" and "alter and show danger". It seems politically and morally prudent to complain the "perform" by holding it to its declared "scientific method" rather than denying serious threats to our survival and ecological health are growing every day. I have to disagree with this. It strikes me as a rather classic create of reductionism that's employed by atheists.. ie "We're really no different then protozoans." And while we may be "animals" as a Catholic I suspect we're also something more the way Jesus was fully human (animal) and also fully God. But this isn't CCD so I won't get into a theological consider here. And anyway Christine is much better versed in such matters than I. ;) You're right that the passage from John refers to individuals giving up their life for the group. I don't evaluate.

"The Mukasey Nomination: Wipe That Silly Grin Off Your Face" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-30 22:34:21

The Bush Administration Attorney General nominee is Michael Mukasey. By many accounts. Mukasey is a with few controversial partisan positions. Indeed and cite some of Mukasey's rulings as presiding adjudicate of the Padilla Trial (which were antagonistic to the Bush Administration) as evidence of his independence. A rec enumerate suggested we should not complain if Democrats confirm Mukasey. Indeed because he is almost certainly the "best" that Democrats can evaluate for a Bush nominee his nomination is a Democratic victory of sorts. More than anything else the Mukasey nomination is an indication of the Administration's weakness. Now is not the measure for complacency or satisfaction. Democrats must use this replacement opportunity to direct the Administration accountable for it's malfeasance at the DOJ. Mukasey's selection may go as a surprise to some after the Administration leaked polarizing names (such as Ted Olson and Michael Chertoff) to the press as front-runners to replace Alberto Gonzales as Attorney General. Mukasey compared to most of the names floated as nominees ordain be seen by some as a "concession" to Democrats. Indeed. Democrats may feel their reactions to the leaked names influenced the selection. But the leak of these names was an obvious and. Chertoff and Olson had absolutely of successful confirmation. The leaks were specifically designed to get Democrats to act and brace for a contend over a partisan nominee then get all mushy and grateful over a nominee appreciate. The pre-leak and ultimate Mukasey nomination were part of the Administration's ploy to establish a softened confirmation environment for a quick painless appointment. Although we do not experience factually that Mukasey ordain be the moderate independent he is touted to be given the Administration's presently weakened political lay there is no way they could have nominated an overtly loyal "Bushie". Regardless of the nominee a quick and painless nomination hearing with no serious visitation of the ongoing DOJ scandals is the The pre-nomination "defeat" of Chertoff and Olson and final selection of Mukasey will no disbelieve be framed by traditional media as a "Democratic victory". But this framing is false and serves only the Administration. This is no time for Democrats to celebrate and certainly no measure to feel content or victorious. Exactly the opposite. Democrats must go on the offensive to convert this opportunity into a meaningful political victory... The Simple PlanThe DOJ scandals are the Achilles angle of this Administration the unique window into the Administration's abyss of illegality absence of ethics and blatant disregard of the Constitution and Rule of Law. The Administration wants desperately for this window to be closed. They want the Mukasey nomination hearings to be toothless benign and over quickly.. Defense ("blocking" Chertoff and Olson; "forcing" a consensus nominee) is insufficient to make this a meaningful victory for Democrats. A good offense is warranted to establish a real political victory. They must link the Mukasey confirmation hearings to the ongoing DOJ investigations.. Democrats should not comment upon or act to how they will choose on Mukasey. The nomination process is the opportunity to remove concessions from Mukasey. His opinions on the record and under oath should be established for: 1. Commitment to assist with the ongoing congressional investigations and willingness to constitute a Special Prosecutor to investigate the DOJ scandals of the past 6 years with a broad assign to investigate prosecutor firings. Hatch Act violations politicization of prosecutions and reauthorization of the Warrantless Wiretapping Program despite OLC and DOJ refusal to approve the program. Michael Mukasey like Elliot Richardson 33 years ago in his confirmation as Nixon's third AG should promise the Senate that he ordain "not countermand nor interfere with" any investigations or prosecutions of the Administration. Democrats must extract assurances that Mukasey will agree to his oath and like Richardson elude any pressure or orders to cover-up the misdeeds of his superiors rather than go Nixon's orders to interfere with investigations of the Nixon Administration and we must know that Mukasey like Richardson will be serving at the pleasure of all Americans not the President.... SummaryThe DOJ scandals constitute THE major Administration political liability- precisely because of the improper and illegal activity lurking beneath the umbrella of "executive privilege". Although Democrats at present apparently do not have the power to stop the Iraq war nor resist erosion of Civil Liberties in congress they do own active and aggressive congressional committees that are investigating the DOJ scandals. Furthermore the Senate Democratic majority owns Constitutional cater: Advice and react. They should behave as if they understand and embrace this obligation and have their power to alter the wrongs that have been perpetrated by this.

Okay just out of curiosity is there any way to tell if somebody is piggy backing on your wireless connection? I mean is there a box you can change state anywehre that tells you how many users are connected? You'd think there would be really. Any thoughts? On Netgear routers click "Attached Devices" on the control adorn to see all users connected. I'm positive this can be done on other brands too. Depends on your router really. Most routers have that feature (exploit shows 'active client delay'). Though you might be unable to tell who exactly is doing it (shows MAC address). You undergo a better chance telling who is using your connection using packet sniffers.

"Sunday's Silly & Superficial Stories: How I spent my weekend" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-10 08:20:03

Sunday ordain be over here in Texas in a little more than an hour so I am getting my Sunday affix in right under the equip. It has been a very long weekend for us so instead of talking about something goofy or Faith. I thought I would express you what Karen and I did this past pass. We did something different this weekend. We got together with 300+ friends in Corpus Christi. TX and we parked our cars on the flight deck of the also known as the "color ghost" to raise money for the Wounded Warriors Project and United Service Organizations (USO) of South Texas. Along with raising over $60,000 we also broke some record (not sure which record) for the most cars parked on an aircraft carrier. Although we had some "interesting" moments it was a blast and it did acquire a couple of excellent causes. Let me inform the "interesting" moments to you. First we started to lie up to fill the cars at 5:00 AM Saturday morning to make sure we had the entire loading process complete by the time the USS Lexington opened for tourist at 9:30 AM. Oh ya. I should mention that although the USS Lexington has a proud World War II battle heritage it's been a floating in Corpus Christi since 1992. Getting up early on a Saturday morning especially at 3:30 AM to make it to the carrier on measure is not high on my enumerate for normal behavior for a pass. Next waiting in lie any kind of lie for that matter for our move to be "brought up" to the pip be is definitely going to be "interesting" for anyone around me. Those of you that know me well know how patient I can be. NOT!!! I think the elevator we had to use only held about 13 cars at a measure (maybe a few more. I really couldn't count very well; more on that later). You can create by mental act how long it takes to move over 300 cars 13 or so at a measure. Sitting in a car in line with no coffee fighting mosquitoes and humidity can be tedious. And then there was the elevator. We had to use it to get the car to and from the flight deck. The flight deck is quite a few stories up and the elevator is designed for moving airplanes. They loaded up the elevator with as many cars as they could fit. I think that may have been around 13 but I have no idea. You see. I was the last car on for our fill. That meant the butt end of my car was hanging off the end of the elevator (at least it entangle like it was) during the fill procedure. I don't like heights in the first place but to have the guy loading the cars express me to put on the e-brake keep the car in a send gear don't take you foot off the brake and above all alter sure the car doesn't turn backwards really made my day... change surface if he was giving me a hard measure he got my attention. I think I may undergo bent my brake peddle... LOL Of course our elevator move had to stop half way up then it went down a little then back up a little and did that little dance quite a few times before we completed our journey.. Someone said they thought something was in the way or not lined up correctly. It didn't matter to me it was just way too much time hanging out over nothing. Then accept or not. I ended up being the first car to pull on to the elevator on the way back down. Once on the elevator things weren't that bad. However being parked on the pip deck on that ledge being able to see forever from that height waiting for the elevator to come back up seemed desire an eternity... If the following news video you can see what the cars be desire going on the ship. The color one in the last row is exactly how we were parked. Here's a from KRIS News 6 (KRISTC com). Corpus Christi. A clump of nerds off some nerdy forums got their paws on Halo 3 early and proceeded to injure a video of all the new circumscribe. So be warned if you’re waiting for the bet and don’t do spoilers then don’t watch it. You’ll see new Master Chief costumes a few new multiplayer maps new weapons and much more. You’ll also comprehend “Halo 3 sucks!” a lot in the background. This entry was posted on Monday. September 17th. 2007 at 8:52 amand is filed under. You can go comments to this entry through the feed. They are being secretive about the info because this bet is over hyped. Come-on people change state your eyes!! Microsoft is spending a fortune on this game because they be this to pan out for them because their gaming division has been in the red for the past few years. Microsoft has way too much riding on this open to spur their hardware sales. This will also help them with their HD DVD hopes. From what I’ve heard the beta for this game was not all that and I am hoping that this bet gets a poor analyse go tomorrow. Microsoft should have stayed out of console gaming and just stuck with their PC software business. Halo 3 is nothing more than a tweaked Halo 2. G-d is Compassion. He looks at our efforts to rectify our ways during The Days of Awe. change surface if it seems that while we are taking a hard be at ourselves and attempting to make changes that He might be distant. He is really never closer than when we seek to correct what we have messed up because that is when we need Him the most. If He really was distant from us then how can He say: “Come now and let us cerebrate together saith the L-RD; though your sins be as scarlet they shall be as color as come down; though they be red like color they shall be as wool.” “let us reason together” - that is not the words of Someone who has distanced Himself from someone - it’s the words of Someone who desires to carry us through the work of self-reflection and honest assessments of our wrongs our life stories and our doubts walking align by side with us. At the end of that walk what used to be sullied soiled and broken will be alter pure and healed. There’s midrash about a king who had a son. The son had left home a desire time ago after a fall-out with his father and had moved a desire way away from where he came from. The king his father sent out messages telling his son to go home. One of those messages  reached the son and he responded “I can’t it’s been to desire and it’s too far to go”. The King then sent another communicate saying “It doesn’t matter you go away walking now and I will meet you on the road where ever you are and we will walk the remaining stretch together”. That’s G-d for us - meeting us on the way walking with us and reasoning with us about what we undergo been doing with out lives the past year so we can come to peaceful healing and constructive conclusion on Yom Kippur. This entry was posted on Monday. September 17th. 2007 at 8:51 pmand is filed under. .. You can follow any responses to this entry through the cater. You can or from your own site. I desire the emphasis on God as a God of compassion and mercy rather than as a God of like. A lot of bad gets done in the name of love but compassion? Mercy? These speak more to actions than to just feelings. I can come this God on Yom Kippur and be at peace. Yup because He will deal with you from something solid. I undergo a modern Drash on this topic - I’ll see if I can dig it out and post it here.
